        DESCRIPTION

Thoth

Desperate and wretched after the death of his wife at the hands of her lover, Hugh Paston becomes engrossed in the occult and goes on a quest for Pan, The Goat-Foot God, aided by an old bookseller called Jelkes. In order to fulfil his desire, the two buy an old monastery and convert it into a temple for Pan. The monastery, however, is haunted by the spirit of a fifteenth-century prior, who was walled up in the cellar for his pagan beliefs and who is also searching for the goat-foot god. He intends to possess Paston and use his body as a vehicle to fulfil his own aims. But it all begins to go horribly wrong, with Jelkes's niece Mona holding the key to success or failure . . . This enchanting book, based on the theme of relationships between men and women, shows how the problems of human loving can be solved by the couple becoming representatives of the God and Goddess.
